Eileithyia (English spelling)

Japanese: エイレイテュイア（英語表記）Eileithyia

A goddess in Greek mythology. Daughter of Zeus and Hera, she faithfully served Hera and was in charge of childbirth. When Leto was about to give birth to Apollo and Artemis, she delayed the birth at Hera's command, making the birth pains last nine days and nights. Similarly, when Alcmene gave birth to Hercules, she followed Hera's will and delayed the birth of the hero, making Eurystheus come first. This is said to have been the reason why Hercules was destined to serve the foolish Eurystheus as a vassal.
