1882‐1970 Swedish author. Born in Stockholm. Known as a prolific writer with a light and witty style, one of his early representative works is the adventure novel "The Pirates of Lake Mälarsee" (1911). His representative work from after World War I, "The Salamanders" (1920), isolates the antisocial behavior and egoism of five brothers involved in black market business during the war, but does not seek to resolve the contradictions of modern society. His plays include "I Was a Thief" (1931). [Tanaka Michio] Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
