San Remo Music Festival - San Remo Music Festival (English name)
This song festival is held in San Remo, a tourist destination in the northwest of Italy. It was founded in 1951 and has been held every year since then in late January or February. Like many song festivals, it is not a contest for singers but a contest for new songs, and since 1964, Italian and foreign singers sing the same song, which is broadcast on television by the national broadcasting station and the ranking is decided by tallying up viewer votes by telephone. Since Domenico Modugno's Volare (Nel blu di pinto di blu), which won the first place in 1958, became a worldwide hit, this music festival has attracted attention overseas as well.
