Gargoyle

Japanese: gargoyle
Gargoyle

… [Yasuo Takahashi]
[Western]
In Greek and Roman temples, the cornice of the eaves also served as a gutter, and rainwater was discharged onto the ground from the mouth of a lion's head sculpture installed at the corner of the eaves. In medieval architecture, this water outlet was called a gargoyle, and sculptures of birds, beasts, or monsters were used. In houses and palaces, rainwater was often collected and drained into the courtyard, and gutters were rarely visible on the exterior.
