Radio waves that are diffusely reflected when they enter the troposphere or ionosphere are called scattered waves, and this type of communication makes use of these scattered waves. Although the energy of scattered radio waves is very weak, communication over long distances is possible with a highly sensitive receiver. Radio waves of several tens to 100 MHz can reach distances of several thousand kilometers. Compared to communications that use lower frequencies, it is less affected by disturbances in the atmosphere or ionosphere.
