...a kingdom that existed from the late 14th century to 1785, centered on Patani (Pattani) in Thailand, on the east coast of the central and southern Malay Peninsula. This area has long been important as a transit point on the international transportation route between India and China, but the Patani Kingdom is thought to have been established as a result of the expansion of the influence of the Ayutthaya Dynasty of Thailand, which was established in 1351, into the Malay Peninsula.
