Land-attached fishing grounds

Japanese: 地付漁場 - じつきぎょじょう

The "Yamano Umikawa Iriya" ("Common Rights of Mountains, Seas and Rivers") of 1741 (Kanpo 1), which is considered the general principle of the fishing system in the Edo period, contains a clause stating that "fishing on the shore is up to the local fishing village, but offshore fishing is common," which stipulates that the right to occupy and use the land-attached fishing grounds in front of coastal villages belongs to the local fishing village. However, this is a general principle, and there were some land-attached fishing grounds that did not belong to the local village, and there were many cases where villages that had previously belonged to other villages were finally able to make them their own after a long struggle. There are also cases in which land-attached fishing grounds became the property of local villages after the Kanpo period.

江戸時代の漁業制度の一般原則とされる1741年(寛保1)の〈山野海川入会〉のなかに，〈磯猟は地附根附次第也，沖は入会〉という条項があり，沿岸村地先の地付漁場の占有利用権は，その地元漁村のものであることを示したものである。しかしこれは一般原則で，地付漁場でありながら地元村のものでないものも存在したし，以前は他村のものであったのを長い闘争を経てようやく自村のものになしえた場合も少なくなかった。寛保期以降に，地付漁場が地元村のものとなったケースもある。
