Born in 1871. A sake brewer from Yamanashi Prefecture. In 1893, he was granted a lease of about 480 hectares of land along the Ishikari River in Iwamizawa Village, Sorachi County, Hokkaido, and settled there. He fell ill midway through the settlement, but his younger brother, Kitamura Tsutomu, took over the development and built a farm with over 120 households. In 1900, the area was separated from Iwamizawa Village to become Kitamura, an independent village. He died on August 7, 1903, at the age of 33.
