Juan II

Japanese: フアン[2世](英語表記)Juan II
Juan II
1398‐1479
The second son of Ferdinand I, the first of the Aragonese dynasty of Trastámara, he was one of the so-called "Prince of Aragon." He married a princess of Navarrese and became King of Navarre (1425-79), and then King of the United Kingdom of Aragon (1458-79). Juan II was a man of great political and diplomatic talent, but he was also ambitious, and his life was a constant battlefield. First, he relentlessly interfered in the internal affairs of Castile, where he had many interests, until his defeat at the Battle of Olmedo (1445).

Juan II

1405‐54
King of Castile. Reigned 1407-54. Father of the future Queen Isabella I of Spain. During his reign in the late Middle Ages, Castile became a battlefield for the Western European political trend toward strengthening royal power and the resistance of the nobles to this trend. Timid by nature and lacking the talent to take the initiative, the king was at the mercy of the changing situation throughout his reign. He died shortly after his favorite, Álvaro de Luna (1390?-1453), who had been handling the affairs of the king's government, was executed by his political enemies.
