Japanese: 三国間貿易 - さんごくかんぼうえき（英語表記）intermediary trade

This is a trade transaction between third countries conducted by a trading company through its overseas branch, and is also called intermediary trade. For example, a Japanese trading company's Chicago branch will be the party responsible for trade responsibilities such as buying and selling, guarantees, and debt settlement, and will export wheat from the United States to Indonesia and import Indonesian clothing to the United States. The reason why trilateral trade conducted by Japanese general trading companies has been attracting attention recently is that it is a form of trading that actively utilizes information collected through overseas subsidiaries and branches. Examples include exporting petrochemical products that are oversupplied in the traditional American market to Southeast Asian countries where there is a shortage, and exporting products produced by joint ventures between Japan and Southeast Asian countries to Western Europe.

貿易商社が在外支店を通じて第三国間で行う貿易取引で，仲介貿易ともいう。たとえばある日本商社のシカゴ支店が売買，保証，債務決済といった貿易責任の当事者となってアメリカからインドネシアへ小麦を輸出し，アメリカへインドネシアの衣料品を輸入したりする場合がこれにあたる。日本の総合商社の行う三国間貿易が最近注目されるのは，それが在外子会社や支店を通じて集められる情報を積極的に活用する取引形態だからである。従来から取引のあったアメリカ市場で供給過剰な石油化学製品を品薄な東南アジア諸国に輸出したり，日本と東南アジア諸国との合弁会社で生産した製品を西ヨーロッパに輸出する等はその例である。
