Changsha Kiln

Japanese: 長沙窯 - ちょうさよう

A kiln located in Tongguan Town, Wangcheng County, Changsha City, Hunan Province, China. Opened during the Tang Dynasty, as early as the 9th century, it produced many products with simple brown and green underglaze paintings using iron and copper colorants. One of its distinctive styles is pieces with cut-out, pasted-on decorations. A thin layer of yellowish celadon glaze is applied to the surface before firing. In addition to bowls, plates, and vases, many water jugs with short spouts and curved handles are seen. Many were exported overseas, and relics have also been excavated in Japan.

中国湖南省長沙市望城県銅官鎮にある窯。唐時代に開窯し，早くも９世紀ごろから，鉄や銅の呈色剤を用い，茶や緑色の簡略な釉下彩絵のある製品を多く焼造した。型抜きの貼り付け装飾のある作品も特徴的な作風の一つ。黄味がかる青磁釉が，表面に薄く掛けられ焼成されている。器形には碗・皿・壺のほか，短い注口と湾曲した把手をもつ水注が多く見られる。海外に多く輸出され，遺品は日本にも出土する。
