These large hanging paintings depict the scenery of shrines and temples and the people who make pilgrimages there. They were used to promote the interpretation of the paintings from the mid-16th century to the end of the 17th century. Although the portrayal of people is typical, auspicious events, legends, and customs are painstakingly written in, and they have been attracting attention in recent years as pictorial resources. Approximately 100 examples have been confirmed to exist, mainly in the Kinki region, including the Nachi Pilgrimage Mandala and the Kokawadera Pilgrimage Mandala. → Related article Koyasan Saint Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
