Bengbu - Bengbu

Japanese:
Bengbu - Bengbu

A prefecture-level city in the northern part of Anhui Province, China. It is a commercial and industrial city located on the south bank of the Huai River, and has jurisdiction over four city districts and three counties (as of 2016). Its population was 3,656,418 (2010). According to the "Yugong," the name Bengbu comes from the fact that the Yi people, who used to base themselves here, used to collect clams (a type of clam) and get pearls. It was originally a small market village called Bengbuji in Fengyang County, but after the Shinpo Line (now the Beijing-Shu Line) was completed in 1911, it developed into a key location connecting north-south transportation and Huai River water transport, and a city was established in 1947.

The city is home to thriving industries including machinery, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, electronics, and building materials. It has long been the center of land and water transportation and distribution of goods in the Huai River basin, and the surrounding rural areas are producers of rice, wheat, millet, peanuts, sesame, etc. It is also the center of the Huai River flood control project and a distribution center for timber transported from upstream.
