A group of ruins in the highlands of Huila Department, Colombia. A culture characterized by pit tombs began around the 5th century BC, and from around the 5th century AD, tombs with stone chambers, sarcophagi and burial mounds appeared, along with unique large stone sculptures depicting people and gods. This culture, which continued until around the 12th century, had metallurgy from its early stages and was characterized by cream-based red painted patterns and negative pattern pottery, and is thought to have influenced Mesoamerican culture.
