Japanese: サラモチコウモリ(皿持蝙蝠) - サラモチコウモリ（英語表記）sucking disc bat

A mammal of the Myzopodidae family (one genus, one species) in the Chiroptera order. It is so named because of the large, disk-shaped sucker on its thumb. It is endemic to Madagascar. It is similar to the Myzopodidae family that inhabits the New World, but its ears are much larger. Forearm length 5 cm, head and body length 6 cm. Its ears are remarkably large like those of the long-eared bat, and unlike other bats, its earlobes are mushroom-shaped, the inner part of which is fused to the earlobe and partially covers the ear canal. The first digit of the forelimb is extremely small, with a disk-shaped sucker at its base and a small claw, but the function of this digit is unclear.

翼手目サラモチコウモリ科Myzopodidae(1属1種)の哺乳類。親指に大きな円盤状の吸盤があるのでこの名がある。マダガスカル島の特産。新世界にすむスイツキコウモリ科のものに類似するが耳介がはるかに大きい。前腕長5cm，頭胴長6cm。耳介はウサギコウモリのように著しく大きく，迎珠（げいしゆ）は他のコウモリと違ってキノコ状で，その内側部は耳介と癒着し，耳の穴の一部をふさいでいる。前肢の第1指はきわめて小さく，その基部に円盤状の吸盤があり，そのつめが小さいが，この指の機能は明らかでない。
