Sarayama Kofun Group

Japanese: 佐良山古墳群 - さらやまこふんぐん

A general term for a group of ancient tombs built on the summits, slopes and foothills of the Sara River basin, bounded by the southwest of Tsuyama City, Okayama Prefecture, Mt. Kannabi, Mt. Sasayama and Mt. Takahachi to the east, and Mt. Sagayama and Mt. Ohira to the west. In 1951, four of the tombs (Nakamiya 1, Kadonoyama 1, Gionune 1 and 2) were excavated and a comprehensive distribution survey was conducted. The group of tombs consists of about 15 small groups and scattered tombs, totaling 178 tombs. The majority are circular, with the exception of six keyhole-shaped tombs and a small number of square tombs. Of the 112 circular tombs that could be measured, three were over 20m in diameter, 16 were over 15m, 54 were over 10m, and 39 were under 10m.

岡山県津山市の南西，東は神奈備山，笹山，高鉢山，西は嵯峨山，大平山に囲まれた皿川の流域の山頂，山腹，山麓に営造された古墳群の総称。1951年そのうちの4基(中宮1号墳，門の山1号墳，祇園畝1号･2号墳)が発掘され，また全面的な分布調査がなされた。古墳群は約15の小群および散在墳から成り，総計178基を数える。その構成は前方後円墳6基，少数の方墳のほかは，大部分が円墳で，計測できた円墳112基のうち，径20m以上3基，15m以上16基，10m以上54基，10m以下39基である。
