Sarasate - Sarasate (English spelling) Pablo (Martín Méliton) de Sarasate

Spanish composer and violinist. Born in Pamplona. Known as a child prodigy from an early age, he entered the Paris Conservatory at the age of 12, and after graduating, he toured Europe and the Americas, becoming famous as the greatest violinist since Paganini. His performances, which combined beautiful tone with superhuman technique, had a strong impact on composers of his time, and Lalo's "Symphonie espagnole," Bruch's Concerto No. 2, and Saint-Saëns' "Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso" were all dedicated to him. Sarasate is famous as the composer of "Zigeunerweisen" (1878), but many of his works use Spanish folk songs and dances (such as malagueña, habanera, jota de Navarra, and zapateado), or melodies from Spanish opera. His representative works include "Dances espagnoles" (1878-82) and "Carmen Fantasia" (1883).
