Rough sponge - Rough sponge

It is a marine animal belonging to the order Monostenosponges, class Vulgaris, phylum Porifera, and family Polyspongiidae. It is widely distributed in warm seas south of the Chubu region of Honshu, and inhabits the lower intertidal zone of coastal waters and on rocky reefs with currents in the subtidal zone. It is a long, slender, vase-shaped sponge, and many vase-shaped sponges are often united where they attach to rocks. It can reach a height of several tens of centimeters. The outer surface of the body is rough and covered with protrusions several millimeters high. The inner surface of the cavity is smooth. The cavity also has many outlets (ostreaks) about 1 millimeter in size. The spicules are only rod-shaped bodies with sharp points at both ends, but the sponge tissue is well developed and the quality is strong. There are two types of sponges: purple and orange.
