Satyricon
A Roman novel said to be written by Petronius. It is a kind of villain novel about two mischievous boys who wander around playing daring pranks. It is written in a style that combines prose and verse, and vividly depicts the customs of early imperial Rome. Only a part of it remains, such as "The Banquet of Trimalchio." It was made into a film by Fellini (1969).

ペトロニウス作と伝えられるローマの小説。二人の悪童が大胆ないたずらを繰り返しながら放浪して歩く,悪者小説の一種で,散文と韻文の入り混じった形式で書かれ,帝政初期のローマの風俗を活写している。現存するのは《トリマルキオの宴会》など一部にすぎない。フェリーニによって映画化された(1969年)。
