Crop forecast - Sakkyoyoho

Japanese: 作況予報 - さっきょうよほう

The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries estimates crop yields before the harvest season and publishes them. They serve as a guideline for farmers' economic planning and are also important in formulating food policy for the entire country, so early and accurate forecasts are necessary for this reason. In Japan, this was of great significance during the food shortage period immediately after World War II, and from around 1947 the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries created a national organization and began making forecasts.

農林水産省が作物の収穫高を収穫期前に推定して，これを公表すること。農家の経済設計の指針となるものであるとともに，国全体の食糧政策立案のうえにも重要で，この点からも早期に正確な予報が行われることが必要である。日本では，第2次世界大戦直後の食糧不足時代には大きな意義があり，1947年頃から農林省によって全国的組織がつくられ，予報が行われるようになった。
