A Neolithic site in Yangshao Village, Menchi County, Henan Province, China. Excavated by J. Anderson in 1921, and re-investigated by Xia Gao and others in 1921. A mixture of artifacts from the Yangshao and Longshan cultures was excavated, and the Chinese painted pottery culture is called the Yangshao culture after the name of the site. The site is on a plateau south of Yangshao Village, and is 600m north to south and 500m east to west, with an artifact-bearing layer 1-5m thick. Remains of pits and burial facilities have been discovered, and artifacts include painted pottery, black pottery, coarse pottery, stone tools, and bone and horn tools. The painted pottery is high-quality polished reddish-brown earthenware, and is often bowls, bowls, and jars, with geometric and animal designs painted in black, white, and red. The black pottery is decorated with engraved lines, raised bow patterns, and geometric patterns, and includes bowls, jars, pots, and beans. Stone tools include polished stone tools such as stone axes, perforated stone axes, single-edged stone axes, stone knives, and stone rings, while bone and horn tools include awls, arrowheads, and needles. Pottery with impressions of rice husks and the bones of livestock have also been excavated.

中国河南省めん池県仰韶村にある新石器時代の遺跡。 1921年に J.アンダーソンによって発掘が行われ，21年に夏鼐 (かだい) らの再調査が行われている。仰韶文化と竜山文化の遺物が混合して出土しているが，この遺跡名をとって中国の彩陶文化を仰韶文化と呼んでいる。遺跡は仰韶村の南の台地にあり，南北 600m，東西 500mの規模を有し，遺物包含層の厚さは1～5mある。竪穴，埋葬施設などの遺構が発見され，遺物としては，彩陶，黒陶，粗陶，石器，骨角器などが発見されている。彩陶は赤褐色の研磨された良質土器で，鉢，碗，甕などが多く，黒，白，赤色で幾何学文，動物文を描いている。黒陶は刻線，凸帯の弦文，幾何学文が描かれ，鉢，甕，壺，豆などがある。石器には，石斧，有孔石斧，片刃石斧，石包丁，石環などの磨製石器が多く，骨角器には，錐，鏃，針などがあった。このほか稲の籾殻の圧痕のついた土器や，家畜の骨なども出土している。
