A general term for marine fish belonging to the Heterodontidae family of cat sharks, or one of these species. The name comes from the fact that their faces resemble a cat, and they are also known as turban shells because they can chew through hard shells like those of turban shells. Their English names include Port Jackson shark (derived from the name of a place in Australia), horn shark, and bullhead shark. Eight species live in Australia, the western Pacific Ocean, the eastern Pacific Ocean, and the Indian Ocean. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
