[Paralysis of the trunk and limbs]
Paralysis of the trunk and limbs is further classified into several types depending on the distribution of affected muscles. Monoplegia is a condition in which only one limb or part of its muscles is paralyzed, and is often caused by lesions in the motor cortex of the cerebral cortex or damage to peripheral nerves or nerve roots. Monoplegia caused by cerebral cortical lesions usually affects only the upper or lower limbs on the opposite side to the lesion, corresponding to the site of the lesion, and usually takes the form of spastic paralysis.
