Japanese: サスライアリ - さすらいあり（英語表記）driver ant

A general term for ants belonging to the subfamily Dorylinae in the family Formicidae of the order Hymenoptera, which consists of two genera, Dorylus and Aenictus , and which are distributed from Africa to the tropical regions of Asia, with one small species, Aenictus, living on Iriomote Island in Japan. Worker ants lack compound eyes or have only a vestigial single eye, and members of the Aenictus genus are polymorphic, with a continuous range of variation from large soldiers to small workers, but all have mandibles with sharply pointed tips.

膜翅目アリ科サスライアリ亜科Dorylinaeに属するアリの総称で，サスライアリ属Dorylusとヒメサスライアリ属Aenictusの2属からなり，アフリカからアジアの熱帯地方にかけて分布し，日本には西表島に小型のヒメサスライアリの1種が生息している。働きアリは複眼を欠くか，痕跡的な1個眼しかなく，サスライアリ属のものは多型で大型の兵アリから小型の働きアリまで連続した変異が見られるが，いずれも先端のよくとがった大あごをもっている。
