? - c.1250 BC The 10th king of the New Hittite Kingdom. Reigned c.1275 BC - c.1250 BC. After the death of his brother King Muwatalli (c.1282 BC), his son Urhutesp became king, but a conflict arose between his uncle Hattusili, who was a great warrior and had a vast estate, and his young nephew Urhutesp, who was suspicious of Hattusili's ambition. Hattusili seized the throne by force, and Urhutesp was reduced to a minor king of Nuhase, a vassal state in Syria. Then, around 1269 BC, a permanent peace treaty was signed between the Hittites and Egyptians, who had long been fighting for supremacy in Syria, by the two kings Hattusili III and Ramses II.
