A military commander in the early Kamakura period. Son of Hideyoshi. His main territory was Sasaki Manor in Omi (Omihachiman City, Shiga Prefecture), but after the Heiji Rebellion (1159), he left his main territory and lived in Shibuya Manor in Sagami Province (near Fujisawa, Yamato, and Ayase City, Kanagawa Prefecture), where he often visited Minamoto no Yoritomo, who was exiled to Izu, on his father's orders. In 1180 (Jisho 4), he responded to Yoritomo's uprising and participated in the subjugation of the Satake clan at Hitachi Kanasa Castle (Hitachiota City, Ibaraki Prefecture), and was appointed as the land steward of his main territory, Sasaki Manor, and then became the guardian of Omi. In 1191 (Kenkyu 2), he fought with the monks of Enryaku-ji Temple over the tax from Sasaki Manor, which was to be used as offerings to the temple, and killed one of them. He was sued by Enryaku-ji Temple and exiled to Satsuma, but was pardoned the following year and allowed to keep his former territory. He died on April 9, 2nd year of Genkyu.
