Ibn Ḥanbal

Japanese: イブン・ハンバル(英語表記)Ibn Ḥanbal
Ibn Ḥanbal
780‐855
An Islamic jurist. The founder of the Hanbali sect, one of the four Sunni schools of law. Also known as a theologian and hadith scholar. Born in Baghdad to a family of members of the Khorasan Corps, the mainstay of the military at the time of the founding of the Abbasid dynasty. He studied there, travelled widely around the Islamic world, and became famous as a hadith scholar. However, he did not approve of the doctrines of the Mu'tazila sect and was severely persecuted. His resistance to the persecution led to the collapse of the Mu'tazila sect. His main work is the hadith collection Musnad. [Akira Goto]
