A resin obtained by polymerizing vinyl acetate. Hard and brittle. Has a low softening point of 40-50°C. White and non-toxic, it is used as a chewing gum base. Soluble in aromatic hydrocarbons or chloroalkanes, ketones, lower alcohols, esters, etc., but insoluble in aliphatic hydrocarbons. Used in adhesives, paints, textile processing, paper processing, and synthetic fiber vinylon.
