Compounds in oxidation states II and III are known. [Chromium(II) acetate] The chemical formula is Cr(CH 3 COO) 2 . Anhydrous and monohydrate are known, both of which are red crystals. It is slightly soluble in cold water, but highly soluble in hot water. It is easily oxidized in air. Chromium acetate(III) can be reduced in the absence of air, but adding an alkali acetate to an aqueous solution of chromium(III) salt and concentrating it gives monohydrate Cr(CH 3 COO) 2 ・H 2 O. This is a binuclear complex in which four CH 3 COO- bridge two Cr bonds, such as [Cr 2 (CH 3 COO) 4 (H 2 O) 2 ]. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
