The chemical formula is Cr(CH ₃ COO) ₂ . Anhydrous and monohydrate are known, both of which are red crystals. It is slightly soluble in cold water, but highly soluble in hot water. It is easily oxidized in air. Chromium acetate(III) can be reduced in the absence of air, but adding an alkali acetate to an aqueous solution of chromium(III) salt and concentrating it gives monohydrate Cr(CH ₃ COO) ₂ ･H ₂ O. This is a binuclear complex in which four CH ₃ ^COO- bridge two Cr bonds, such as [Cr ₂ (CH ₃ COO) ₄ (H ₂ O) ₂ ].

　化学式Cr(CH₃COO)₂。無水和物および1水和物が知られており，いずれも赤色結晶。冷水にはわずかに溶けるが，熱水にはよく溶ける。空気中では酸化されやすい。空気を断って酢酸クロム(III)を還元するが，クロム(III)塩水溶液に酢酸アルカリを加えて濃縮すると1水和物Cr(CH₃COO)₂･H₂Oが得られる。これは四つのCH₃COO^－が二つのCrを橋架けしている[Cr₂(CH₃COO)₄(H₂O)₂]のような複核錯体である。
