Founded in 1933 as Precision Optical Instruments Laboratory. Developed with 35mm high-end cameras, and expanded into mid-range cameras in 1961, it is now the largest manufacturer in the national market. It also produces various optical equipment, copiers, calculators, scanners, printers, etc. In addition to its own brand, it supplies products under OEM contracts to HP, Kodak, and Apple. It is well known internationally, and its copiers and printers for the US and Europe are doing well. It is also the world's leader in digital cameras. Head office in Tokyo, factories in Tamagawa (Kanagawa), Toride, Utsunomiya, etc. Capital in 2011 was 174.7 billion yen, and sales for the fiscal year ending December 2011 were 3.5574 trillion yen.
