Abekobegaeru (paradoxical frog)

Abekobegaeru (paradoxical frog)

A frog of the family Upside-Down Frogs in the order Anura in the class Amphibians. It is found mainly in Brazil and Argentina. It is aquatic, preferring still water with lots of aquatic plants, and eating small animals on the bottom. It is around 6 centimeters long. Its body surface is dark green, and its hind legs are mottled with yellow and black. Its skin is smooth, and its hind legs have large, well-developed webbed feet. Its eggs are laid in foam-like masses among aquatic plants, and the tadpoles that grow into them are much larger than adults, reaching a total length of up to 25 centimeters. The baby frogs are bigger than the parents, hence the name Upside-Down Frogs. The family Upside-Down Frogs is endemic to South America, and five species are known in two genera.
