A cargo-passenger ship belonging to Nippon Yusen, completed in Glasgow, England in 1900 (Meiji 33), and sailed to Japan in August of the same year. 6,388 gross tons, 238 passenger capacity, triple-engine reciprocating engine. It was in service on the North American route, but when the Russo-Japanese War broke out in 1904, it participated in the war as a military ship and then as a disguised cruiser. In the early hours of May 27, 1905, it spotted the hospital ship Alyor, part of the Russian Baltic Fleet, approaching the Tsushima Strait on its way to Vladivostok, and sent the first report of "enemy ships sighted" to the Combined Fleet. It then continued to report the movements of the enemy fleet, which led to the great victory in the Battle of Tsushima. It later transferred to Kinkai Yusen, and then became a Kani Kosen, and was active as a transport ship during World War II and as a repatriation ship after the war until 1951 (Showa 26).
