Sakanoue no Karitamarō

Japanese: 坂上苅田麻呂 - さかのうえのかりたまろ

728－786 A warrior from the Nara period.
Born in the 5th year of the Jinki era. Son of Sakanoue Inukai. Father of Sakanoue Tamuramaro. Distinguished in the Fujiwara no Nakamaro Rebellion, he served as Chueno Shosho and Mutsu Chinju Shogun. In the first year of the Enryaku era, he was dismissed from his position as Ueji no Kami (Commander of the Right Guard) for his involvement in the rebellion of Hikami Kawatsugu, but was soon reinstated. In the fourth year, he also served as Sakyo no Daibu (Left Capital Minister) and Echizen no Kami (Lord of Echizen). Junior Third Rank. Died on January 7, the 5th year of the Enryaku era. 59 years old.

神亀(じんき)5年生まれ。坂上犬養(いぬかい)の子。坂上田村麻呂の父。藤原仲麻呂の乱で功をたて,中衛(ちゅうえの)少将,陸奥(むつ)鎮守将軍などを歴任する。延暦(えんりゃく)元年氷上川継(ひかみの-かわつぐ)の謀反に連座して右衛士督(うえじのかみ)を解任されるが,まもなく復帰。4年左京大夫(だいぶ)をかね,さらに越前(えちぜんの)守もかねた。従三位。延暦5年1月7日死去。59歳。
