A river that flows through central Kanagawa Prefecture. Its name comes from the fact that it formed the border between Sagami Province and Musashi Province. Its total length is 69 km. It flows southeast between the Sagamihara Plateau and the Tama Hills, and its upper reaches still form the border between Tokyo and Kanagawa Prefecture. In the middle reaches, it turns south and empties into Sagami Bay at Katase in Fujisawa City. The area near its mouth is also called the Katase River. As the river basin becomes urbanized, measures are being taken to prevent river water pollution and flooding during rainfall.Sakai RiverSource: Encyclopaedia Britannica Concise Encyclopedia About Encyclopaedia Britannica Concise Encyclopedia Information |
