Japanese: イワヒメワラビ - いわひめわらび

A perennial fern of the Acanthaceae family (illustration) commonly found on forest edges, sunny forest floors, and grasslands in warm areas south of Honshu. The rhizomes are long and creeping. The leaves are pinnately incised 3-4 times and often grow long to form thickets. The plant is covered with soft white glandular hairs, and young leaves are somewhat sticky. The sporangia are located at the tips of the veins, on the underside of the leaves, and do not form an intumescent membrane. Under favorable conditions, the shape of the leaves is not fixed when they unfold, and they have a habit of continuing to grow almost indefinitely, like the Urajiro fern.

本州以南の暖地の林縁や明るい林床，草地に普通にみられるコバノイシカグマ科の多年生シダ植物（イラスト）。根茎は長くはう。葉は3～4回羽状に切れこみ，長く伸びてやぶ状のしげみを作ることが多い。全体に白色のやわらかい腺毛があり，若葉はいくらかねばつく。胞子囊群は脈の先端につき，葉の裏面に位置して，包膜をつけない。好条件下では，葉の形は展開時に決まってしまうことがなく，ウラジロのように生長がほとんど無限に続く習性がある。
