A breed of the domestic cat Felis catus , which belongs to the Felidae family of the Carnivora order of the Mammalia class. It is a representative long-haired breed that was developed in England over a century based on the Persian cat native to Afghanistan and the Angora cat native to Turkey. It has a stocky body with a long body and short limbs, and a sturdy skeleton. It has a wide head and a large, flat face. It has a low, flat nose, round eyes, and small ears. Its tail is short but bushy, with a tuft at the end. Its entire body is covered with abundant long hair, especially around its neck. Its coat comes in a variety of colors, including white, blue, and black, and it is divided into different types based on coat color. It has a gentle disposition, is affectionate towards its owner, and moves gracefully and with grace.

哺乳(ほにゅう)綱食肉目ネコ科の動物であるイエネコFelis catusの1品種。アフガニスタン在来のペルシアネコとトルコ在来のアンゴラネコをもとにイギリスで1世紀ほどかけて作出された代表的長毛種。長い胴に短い四肢がつくずんぐりした体形で、骨格はがっしりとしている。頭は幅広く、顔は平らで大きい。鼻は低く扁平(へんぺい)で、目は丸く、耳は小さい。尾は短いがふさふさとし、その先端は房状となる。体全体が長い被毛で豊かに覆われているが、とくに頸(くび)の周りはふさふさとしている。毛色はホワイト、ブルー、ブラックなどさまざまの色合いがみられ、毛色別に種類が分けられている。性質は温和で、飼い主に対し愛情豊かにふるまい、動作は優雅で気品にあふれる。
