[1][一] A place name in Ukyo Ward, Kyoto City. The area is located in the northwest of the Kyoto Basin, on the north bank of the Hozu River, and is divided into Kamisaga and Shimosaga. It has been used as a hunting ground since the Heian period, and after Emperor Saga's villa was built there, it became a villa for aristocrats. It is rich in scenic places and historical sites, including Tenryu-ji Temple, Seiryo-ji Temple, and Daikaku-ji Temple. [1][一] 京都市右京区の地名。京都盆地北西部、保津川北岸の地域で、上嵯峨・下嵯峨に分けられる。平安時代から狩猟地に利用され、嵯峨天皇の離宮が営まれてのち、貴族の別荘地となる。名勝旧跡に富み、天龍寺、清凉寺、大覚寺などがある。山城国の歌枕。※元真集（966頃か）「をみなへしあまた見すててすぎゆかばさがのこころとおもふべきかな」[二] 「さがてんのう（嵯峨天皇）」の略。[2] 〘名〙「さがぎれ（嵯峨切）」の略。[語誌]((一)(一)について) (1)挙例の「元真集」のように「さが（性）」と掛けられた例が多い。
(2)秋に結びつけて、「女郎花」「花薄」「萩」などの植物や、「露」「鹿」とともに詠まれた。
