Born June 15, 1916 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin [Died] February 9, 2001. Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. American business scholar. Graduated from the University of Chicago's Department of Political Science in 1936, and majored in political science at the graduate school. After serving as an assistant professor and professor at the Illinois Institute of Technology in 1942, he became a professor at Carnegie Mellon University in 1949. He has held important positions such as vice president of the American Association of Management Science and chairman of the Behavioral Science Section of the National Research Council. A leading researcher in behavioral science-based organizational theory, he attempted unique analyses in new fields such as computer use and decision-making. The main theories of organization he worked on included (1) theories on the decision-making process of individuals in organizations, (2) theories of human behavior in organizations, and (3) theories of organizational equilibrium. In 1978, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences for his "pioneering research into the decision-making process within economic organizations." His major works include Administrative Behavior (1945), Models of Man (57), "Organizations" (58, co-authored with J.G.
