Operating a plant or process in an optimal state is called optimization control. In other words, it is determining and executing the values of process variables that maximize an objective function such as efficiency, profit margin, or production volume. Generally, the relationship between the input and output of the process to be controlled is called the process equation, and maximizing the objective function under these constraints is called optimization. In particular, the dynamic optimization of the transient state of a process is called optimal control, and the static optimization of the steady state is called optimal control, to distinguish between the two. プラントやプロセスを最適な状態で運転することを最適化制御という。すなわち効率,利益率,生産量などの目的関数を最大にするようなプロセス変数の値を決定し実行することである。一般に制御対象であるプロセスの入力と出力の関係をプロセス方程式と呼び,これら制約条件のもとで目的関数を最大にすることを最適化という。特にプロセスの過渡状態の動的最適化を最適制御と呼び,定常状態の静的な最適化を最適化制御と呼んで区別する。
