Forgery - Gisho (English spelling) imposture

Japanese: 偽書 - ぎしょ（英語表記）imposture

A book that has been created by falsifying the contents of a work that has already been lost and is no longer in existence, or a work that never existed in the first place, to appear as if it were the original. It is also called a 'karakusho' (provisional book). In contrast, a book that attempts to increase its value as an old book by forging publication notes or colophons, or by forging library seals, is called a 'ganpon' (fake book), counterfeit book, or fake copy.

すでに滅んで伝存しない作品，あるいは元々存在していない作品を，原本のように内容を偽って作成した本．仮託書（かりたくしょ）ともいう．それに対して，刊記や奥書などを偽造したり，蔵書印記を偽造して捺印したりして，古書としての価値を高めようとしたものは，偽造書，偽本または贋本（がんぽん）という．
