Magoichi Saika

Japanese: 雑賀孫市 - さいかまごいち

At the end of the Sengoku period, he was a local lord based in the lower Kii River basin in Kii Province, where Honganji followers were strong, and one of the leaders of the Saika Ikki. He was also known as Suzuki Magoichi Shigehide and Hirai Magoichi. Years of birth and death unknown. During the Ishiyama War, he resisted Oda Nobunaga as the general of the Honganji side. When peace was reached between Honganji and Nobunaga, a split occurred within the Saika Ikki, and Magoichi was driven out of his homeland and served Toyotomi Hideyoshi, and is said to have participated in the Odawara Campaign. He later served as a chief retainer of the Mito domain. Renjoji Temple in Hirai, Wakayama City, is also known as Magoichi Dojo.

戦国末期，本願寺門徒勢力の強い紀伊国紀ノ川下流域を本拠とした土豪で，雑賀一揆の指導者の一人。鈴木孫市重秀，平井孫市ともいう。生没年不詳。石山合戦では本願寺方の大将として織田信長に抵抗。本願寺と信長の間で和議が成立すると雑賀一揆内部で分裂が起き，在地を追われた孫市は豊臣秀吉に仕え，小田原征伐にも参加したという。その後水戸藩の家老職についている。なお現和歌山市平井にある蓮乗寺は孫市道場ともよばれる。
