A nationalistic rebellion that lasted for 21 years from 1899 in Somalia, eastern Africa. The leader, Sayyid Muḥammad (c. 1864-1920), was the leader of an Islamic group called the Salihiyya, and appealed to the people for a religious sense of crisis that Islam was in danger of being annihilated by British colonialists, and launched an ethnic rebellion that transcended tribal boundaries, mainly in British Somalia. In 1899, Somalia declared war on the British governor-general, and in 1900-02, taking advantage of Britain's difficulties in the Boer War in South Africa, launched an offensive.

アフリカ東部のソマリアで1899年から21年間も続いた民族主義的反乱。指導者サイイド･ムハンマドSayyid Muḥammad(1864ころ‐1920)はサリヒーヤ団というイスラム教団の指導者で，イギリス植民地主義者によりイスラムが壊滅の危機にしているとの宗教的危機感を人々に訴え，部族の枠を越えた民族的反乱をイギリス領ソマリアを中心に展開した。1899年にイギリス総督に宣戦を布告，1900‐02年にはイギリスが南アフリカのボーア戦争に手こずっているのに乗じて攻勢に出た。
