1786‐1831 He was a poor peasant from Rai Bareilly in the middle reaches of the Ganges River in Uttar Pradesh, northern India, and led the Mujahideen movement. He studied under Shah 'Abd al-'Aziz (1746-1824), the son of Shah Wali Ullah. When Abd al-'Aziz appealed for the Muslims' duty to resist the pagan British rule in India, he went around preaching this to the general Muslim public.
