Tang Shao-yi (Tang Shao-i)

[Died] August 1938, Shanghai. Chinese politician from the late Qing and Republican periods. Born in Panyu County, Guangdong Province. His pen name was Shaochuan. He studied at Columbia University in the United States, and after returning to China, he served as Korea's customs commissioner, Korean consul general, assistant minister of foreign affairs, and minister of post and communication. During the Xinhai Revolution, he was appointed by Yuan Shikai to represent the north in the North-South Peace Agreement. The following year, he became Prime Minister under Yuan Shikai, but resigned to oppose Yuan's imperialist movement. In 1918, he became Minister of Finance in Sun Yat-sen's Guangdong military government, and the following year, he became the southern representative in the North-South Peace Agreement. He later served as a member of the Nationalist Government and was in conflict with Chiang Kai-shek, but was assassinated in Shanghai in 1938.

中国，清末，民国期の政治家。広東省番禺県の人。字は少川。アメリカのコロンビア大学に学び，帰国後朝鮮の海関長，朝鮮総領事，外務部侍郎，郵伝部大臣などを歴任した。辛亥革命に際し，袁世凱より南北和議の北方代表に指名された。翌年袁世凱のもとで国務総理となったが，辞職して袁の帝制運動に反対を唱えた。 1918年孫文の広東軍政府で財政部長，翌年南北和議の南方代表となった。のち国民政府委員などをつとめ，蒋介石と対立したが，38年上海で暗殺された。
