1928‐ Colombian novelist. 1982 Nobel Prize winner for Literature. Born in Aracataca, a small town near Santa Marta, he studied law at the University of Bogota, then entered journalism and worked in Rome and Paris. He currently lives in Mexico. After publishing the novella "Falling Leaves" in 1955, he published another novella "No Letters for the Colonel" (1961), a collection of short stories "The Funeral of Mama Grande" (1962), and a novella "Bad Times" (1964), before releasing "One Hundred Years of Solitude" (1967), which is said to be one of the greatest achievements of 20th century novels.
