Colombian novelist. 1982 Nobel Prize winner for Literature. Born in Aracataca, a small town near Santa Marta, he studied law at the University of Bogota, then entered journalism and worked in Rome and Paris. He currently lives in Mexico. After publishing the novella "Falling Leaves" in 1955, he published another novella "No Letters for the Colonel" (1961), a collection of short stories "The Funeral of Mama Grande" (1962), and a novella "Bad Times" (1964), before releasing "One Hundred Years of Solitude" (1967), which is said to be one of the greatest achievements of 20th century novels.

コロンビアの小説家。1982年度のノーベル文学賞を受賞。サンタ・マルタに近い小さな町アラカタカで生まれ,ボゴタ大学で法律を学んだ後,ジャーナリズムの道に入ってローマ,パリに在勤。現在はメキシコに住む。1955年に中編《落葉》を発表してから,同じく中編《大佐に手紙は来ない》(1961),短編集《ママ・グランデの葬儀》(1962),中編《悪い時》(1964)などを経て,20世紀小説の最大の収穫の一つと言われる《百年の孤独》(1967)を世に送った。
