Roman Emperor. Reigned 293-305, 305-306. Also called Constantius Chlorus. A military man from Illyricum. Selected by Diocletian to rule Gaul and Britain as a co-emperor of the west as part of the Tetrarchy. With the help of Maximian, he defeated Carausius and Alectus, who had established independent kingdoms in Gaul, and also subjugated the tribes of Britain. He ruled with a gentle and tolerant attitude, and even during the Great Persecution of Christians in 303, he destroyed churches and did not actively persecute them.

ローマ皇帝。在位，副帝293‐305年，正帝305‐306年。コンスタンティウス･クロルスとも呼ばれる。イリュリクム出身の軍人。ディオクレティアヌスに抜擢（ばつてき）され，テトラルキア(四分治制)の一員たる西方副帝としてガリア，ブリタニアを統治。正帝マクシミアヌスの援助をえてガリアに独立王国をたてていたカラウシウス，アレクトゥスを倒し，さらにブリタニアの諸部族をも制圧した。穏和寛大な統治を行い，303年のキリスト教徒大迫害に際しても教会を破壊したのみで積極的な迫害は行わなかった。
