250-306 Roman Emperor. Reigned 293-305, 305-306. Also called Constantius Chlorus. A military man from Illyricum. Selected by Diocletian to rule Gaul and Britain as a co-emperor of the west as part of the Tetrarchy. With the help of Maximian, he defeated Carausius and Alectus, who had established independent kingdoms in Gaul, and also subjugated the tribes of Britain. He ruled with a gentle and tolerant attitude, and even during the Great Persecution of Christians in 303, he destroyed churches and did not actively persecute them.
