In the Edo period, it was believed that if one put it under their pillow on the night of the first or second day of the New Year, they would have auspicious dreams, and there were people who went around selling them, calling out "treasure, treasure." Some of them were painted with auspicious images such as rice sacks, a thousand-ryo box, a folding fan, and pine, bamboo, and plum, and some were inscribed with a palindrome (same phrase when read backwards): "Naka-ki-yo-no-tono-ne-furi-no-mina-mesame-naminori-fune-no-oto-yo-ki-kana."... *Some of the terminology that refers to "treasure selling" is listed below.
