Sanetoshi Saionji - Saionji Sanetoshi

A nobleman during the Northern and Southern Courts period. His father was Gon Dainagon Kinmune, and his mother was the daughter of Gon Dainagon Hino Sukena. His first name was his real name. According to the Taiheiki, his father Kinmune was killed for plotting to overthrow the new Kenmu government, and Sanetoshi was born on the 100th day after his death. In 1366 (Seiji 5/Shohei 21), he became the Minister of the Right. After Kinmune's arrest, Kinmune's half-brother Kinshige succeeded him as head of the family, and thereafter there was a back and forth between Kinshige and Sanetoshi as head of the family, but after Kinshige served the Southern Court, Sanetoshi became head of the family in the Northern Court. 南北朝期の公卿。父は権大納言公宗,母は権大納言日野資名の娘。初名実名。『太平記』の伝えるところによれば,建武新政権の転覆を計画した父公宗が誅殺され,その百日忌当日に誕生したのが実俊であるという。貞治5/正平21(1366)年右大臣となる。公宗の逮捕後,公宗の異母弟公重が家督を継ぎ,その後公重と実俊との間で家督の往き来があったが,公重が南朝に祗候したのちは,実俊が北朝における家督となった。後常盤井殿とも称される。<参考文献>『西園寺家系譜』
