One of the largest rivers in North America. Total length 2000 km. Drainage area 670,000 ^km2 . It originates from Lake Columbia at the western foot of the Rocky Mountains in British Columbia, Canada, and curves north and then south before entering the United States, flowing west and emptying into the Pacific Ocean. Salmon fishing is popular here. With an abundant amount of water, there are many dams, including the Grand Coulee Dam in the middle reaches. The largest tributary is the Snake River.
