Saame

Japanese: Saame
Saame

...In ancient documents, they are written as "Samoyadi", "Samogendi" or "Samogenti". The name Samoyed comes from the modern Russian word samoedy (which can also be interpreted as meaning "self-eaters"), which was established in connection with the rumor that they were cannibals, but its original meaning is unknown. One theory is that it is related to the Scandinavian Lapps who call themselves Sámi (Saame). After the 1917 revolution, the name Samoyed has been replaced by the name Samodi in the Soviet Union.
